Styling with Feng Shui

Styling with Feng Shui

To welcome the Lunar New Year, the list of things-to-do piles up with spring cleaning in mind, not to mention the hosting of parties and entertaining visiting guests, rearranging of furniture, or redecorating to freshen up the look of our homes.

In today's blog post, we crack the beginner's guide on how to stylishly style our homes with Feng-Shui to harness positive energy and better comfort this Chinese new year, the easy way.

Good circulation of energy and people in the room is key. As crucial as it is to ensure that your sofas and seating options are placed strategically to encourage interaction, never have them organised in obstruction to the ease of flow. Sounds like common sense to us, but sometimes things like side tables or angled seats could obstruct movement within the space.

If your living room layout lacks a little stylish flair, try placing a long console table behind the sofa. Dress it up  with fresh blooms and plants. Our Chinoiserie vases are perfect porcelain jars just for that but for those looking for something more modern, our Tankers are great for floor standing jars for your CNY flowers and plants.

Another easy feng-shui feature to add to the living room is a mirror to act as a reflector of energy. Ensure that the mirror is reflecting something good and positive to double the abundance. Try to keep your mirror’s reflected imagery away from guests or family to avoid making them feel constantly conscious of their behaviour.

A crystal or reflective pendant light is also ideal to redistribute the positive energy in the living room, especially in a happy gathering like a family reunion. Our Dome light in bronze would fit the role perfectly and look great in any living room with its sleek and modern look.

To encourage natural light into your space, add window treatment to soften the look of the room and also to shade any view that is unwanted. Sheer curtains are ideal to allow light to permeate the room giving your space a lovely warm glow.

Another one of our favourite things to do, is to dress up our walls like a blank canvas with art or a collage of framed family photos. It helps to invigorate the room with harmony and love of the family. Frame and collage them to create a stunning photo montage against textured wallpaper like our Rattan romance to give your feature wall a modern tropical vibe.

Add vibrant colour like an assortment of pillows to encourage positive “Chi”. Colours like red, eggplant and sunshine yellow are great colours to consider. Do it with ease and style your living room with our collection of throw cushions.

To breathe life into our homes, living plants in feng-shui helps liven up the good energy of the room. Check out our post on Plantscape tips for more inspiration.

As with all celebrations, there's going to be an abundant flow of entertaining during this festive period, and you probably have a few classic drink concoctions up your sleeves. Serve drinks in our exquisite Turkish delight cups and flutes to infuse colour and positive vibes and have your "Chi" in tact.
